Robinson Jeffers and the Ecologies of Poetry
The Library joins Occidental College to celebrate the life of California poet Robinson Jeffers, widely regarded as one of the founders of the modern environmental movement in America.
Jeffers learned stone masonry and built his stone house and tower in northern California's Big Sur. He often used rocks and stones in his poems as symbols of "dark peace."

Stone Castles & Cottages of the Verdugo Hills
Some years ago, The Glendale Historical Society, Glendale, CA, created a paper brochure highlighting the stone structures located in and around the Tujunga/Sunland area. The brochure, "From Stone Castles to Cottages," identifies numerous examples of stone architecture in the region.
The Library's updated online version of the map created by Librarian Mike Shea provides images, sometimes new and sometimes old, of the structures listed on the original. Click on the links below or an any placemark on the map for more information and to view an image of that structure.
A limited number of copies of "From Stone Castles to Cottages" paper brochure are available for free at the Glendale Central Library. Contact Chuck Wike, Community Relations Manager, (818) 548-2042 or via EMAIL.
